The company you choose to install your bi-fold doors must be FENSA (the leading body providing homeowner protection in the double glazing industry, ensuring all installations comply with current building regulations) or Certass approved (Certass registered contractors are vetted to ensure they are qualified to carry out the replacement of windows and doors in accordance with the current building regulations and provide a Building Regulation Compliance Certificate for the work carried out).
We also recommend that you consider using a member of DGCOS (Double Glazing & Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme), which provides comprehensive protection for homeowners installing windows, doors, conservatories, orangeries and associated products. Other useful accreditations for your own peace of mind are; Trustmark, the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), which is only awarded to contractors whose work and customer service/support is recognised as being the best available and an insurance-backed warranty. All reputable companies will give you a 10 year guarantee, but this is only any good if they are trading for that 10 years. An insurance-backed warranty will back up your suppliers guarantee in the event that they cease trading within your guarantee period.
Employ Specialists.
When you start looking into bi-folding doors, you will see that they are a much more technical product with a lot more to think about than standard windows and doors. Not all window, door or double glazing companies have the required expertise, so choose a supplier who has experience of bi-fold doors and can show you previous installations and introduce you to customers. Anyone can make a door look good and work well in a showroom; you need to see doors that have been in situ for a while and see the quality of workmanship and installation.
