Door Buyers Guide

A Guide to Choosing Your Bi-folding Doors.

Designed to meet your individual requirements, our range of bi-fold doors is available in a choice of designs, sizes and finishes to complement the style and layout of your home.

There is a wide choice of design and colour options; whether you’re looking for a simple design to open up part of a wall, several doors to open the whole back of your home up or to lighten a dark corner with a set of doors at a 90° angle.

We’ve put together some of the important questions you should ask yourself when deciding which bi-fold doors will suit your home and lifestyle and transform your living space.

DESIGNS

Where are the doors going to be fitted and are they going to be internal or external?

Think about what’s currently around the area of the doors or what you are planning to have around the area of the doors, for example, kitchen units, furniture, plant pots.

What are you trying to achieve?

Are you looking to create space or divide a room, or perhaps create an alternative entrance and would you like the doors to open out or open in?

Open out is better if you have the space outside, as open in doors take space from your room and if they’re opened after it’s been raining water they will drip onto your floor!

In what direction would you like your bi-fold doors to fold/slide?

Bi-fold doors can fold/slide from the left, from the right or half and half.  Think about where the doors will be when they’re folded back and open, so that they won’t be in your way.  Bear in mind whether you are right or left handed and how will you find it easiest to operate your bi-fold doors?

What are your threshold requirements?

Consider whether you need wide access for a pushchair or wheel chair and what you’ll be doing with the floor/ground either side of the doors.  Would you like a step or would you prefer the floor levels to be as flush as possible whilst still providing drainage?  If you’re having internal doors the threshold can be completely flush.

How will your doors be used?

This is one of the most important factors when choosing a design!  Think about who will be using the doors? Will they be used for general access every day or just to open the space on warmer, sunny days?

What colour would you like?

There are hundreds of colours available to choose from, in both matt and gloss finishes, and most are available at no extra cost.
